The Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Senator Pius Anyim, is among the prominent Nigerians who will receive honorary doctorate degrees from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka at its 42nd
convocation come Saturday.
The other honourees are the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega; former Managing Director of Guaranty Trust Bank, Mr. Fola Adeola; and the Group Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Diamond Bank, Dr. Alex Otti.
UNN Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Bartholomew Okolo, made this known to newsmen at a press briefing in Enugu on Monday.
Okolo said the awardees were being recognised following their “remarkable contributions to the development of our country.”
According to him, a former minister, Dr. Obiageli Ezekwesili, will deliver the convocation lecture entitled ‘the wealth and poverty of a nation: who shall restore the dignity of Nigeria’.
Ezekwesili, an alumna of the university, was Minister of Solid Minerals as well as Education, Vice-President of the World Bank (African Region) and currently Senior Economic Adviser at the Open Society Foundation as well as Director of Bharti Airtel.
Meanwhile, 116 persons will earn First Class Honours, while another 195 will receive the institution’s doctorate degrees on the occasion.
